Bonjour, it’s Théo 👋
I’m writing this letter from my hotel in Wall Street. My New York City trip is about to end in a few days and I’m just so excited to be back in Paris with the energy that NY gave me.
This city is just so motivational for anyone who wants to pursue his dreams. My first NY trip was with my family, I was still a teenager, but it’s so different now to discover the American way of life with the eyes of an adult.
Everything is just so big, so fast, and it gives you the energy to keep pushing to your goals. You maybe noticed that I started to post twice a day on social media (@frenchguytheo on TikTok and Instagram) to share you all my trip !
And during my investigations in this incredible city, I had to try the French food we can find here, to see if New York provides accurate and authentic French dishes. And I was surprised ! ✨
So here’s a selection of French spots you can try in New York City :
Dominique Ansel
189 Spring St, New York, NY 10012
This famous French pastry chef went to NYC to share his own creation : the Cronut ! It’s a donut made of croissant dough, filled with cream, with a frosting on top 😍
It’s decadent, creamy, but not too sweet ! It’s a perfect discovery and the pastry shop also provides other delicious cakes and pastries.
La Boucherie
West Village location : 99 7th Ave S, New York, NY 10014
La Boucherie is a group of 4 French brasseries restaurants you can find in Manhattan. I was so excited to try a French traditional restaurant in NYC to compare it with Paris, and I have to say that La Boucherie is a really good contender.
Each location has an incredible decor, it’s classy, chic but not snobby at all. I tried their West Village restaurant, with a Steak Frites that was perfectly tender. The vibe really feels authentic, it’s not just a touristy place.
I was surprised by the prices, because $49 for a Steak-Frites is a big amount of money. Brasseries restaurants were supposed to be affordable for everyone. But in New York, the prices can double, so La Boucherie is not out of their mind.
Little Paris
154 Grand St, New York, NY 10013
This recommendation is not for a single place, but for the all street !
Little Paris district is a French inspired street imagined by Coucou French Classes, a French language learning company that has its HQ here.
The street is small, it’s not a real district yet, but you can find some French spots, like a Wine bar or the café Maman, where you can get an almond croissant and have a seat in a cute place.
