Bonjour, it’s Théo 👋
This week, this letter is special. In a few days I’ll go to New York City !
The Big Apple, the city of all dreams !
I went there 5 years ago with my family but it will be the first time I go to NYC on my own, to enjoy the most of the city as an independent adult in his twenties.
Discovering the city again, taking the time to enjoy it, and not just rushing all the touristic attractions like I did on 2018. I can’t wait to come to the US and understand more about how life is going on there.
But I won’t be too disoriented… Because New York City is probably the most “Parisian” of all the US cities.
Same city, same people ?
NYC has a cosmopolitan population, like many big cities as Paris or London, so I won’t feel like I’m not at my place. It’s a welcoming city, especially for tourists and foreigners who want to discover US culture.
It’s also a walkable one, that’s what I really enjoy about Paris, and I won’t lose it in NYC because you can easily navigate by walking through the avenues.
It’s definitely more “business-oriented” that Paris, but I know it will give me some motivation to pursue my goals 💪
A cultural city
Even if it’s not the same architecture as Paris, and it’s a more recent city, NY has a lot of cultural aspects to discover.
I’ve already seen some of them in 2018, like the National History Museum, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island : I remember having a meditative walk in the Ellis Island Memorial museum and it was a perfect experience !
I can’t wait to explore the smaller neighborhoods, trying the true new-yorkian life outside the touristic areas.
What do I plan to do ?
I have a full plan for this trip, with plenty of videos that I want to make about this beautiful city.
If you want to follow all of this, it will be on @frenchguytheo on TikTok and Instagram 👌
I also want to see how French culture is represented in the US, with the Little Paris district and all the French restaurants there.
I can’t wait to discover if a NY croissant worth the Parisian one 😉
If you have any place, museum, park or restaurant you want me to discover, don’t hesitate to comment on this letter to give me your recommendations !
See you in NYC,
À bientôt 👋
Théo
If you haven't been to the Tenement Museum, it's fascinating. Afterward, lunch at Katz's, or pick-up knish from Yonah Schimmel's.
Please make the East Village one of the neighborhoods you explore! So many odd little bars and eateries :)
And if you didn’t get to the Met Museum last time, be sure to stop by this time. And since it’s right next to Central Park, be sure to take a stroll there, the park is wonderful this time of year!
